Resumen
Introducción: el fibroma osificante periférico es un tumor de crecimiento focal, que se localiza usualmente en la encía y frecuentemente es recidivante. Clínicamente se puede confundir con el granuloma periférico de células gigantes, fibroma de células gigantes, fibroma simple y con el granuloma telangectásico, por lo que siempre amerita diagnóstico histológico.
Caso clínico: paciente femenina de 49 años de edad, que consultó por presentar recidiva de una lesión en la cavidad oral. Presentaba inconformidad estética y funcional por la tumoración en zona premolar izquierda, con evolución de dos años. Se realizó extracción quirúrgica. El estudio histopatológico confirmó diagnóstico de fibroma osificante periférico.
Conclusión: la intervención quirúrgica debe incluir la escisión completa del tumor para reducir la posibilidad de recidiva. Rev.cienc.biomed.2014;5(1):130-133
